Cali Contemporary California Casual Style// Project Reveal

We are thrilled to reveal the photos for ‘Cali Contemporary‘, an earthy and organic project, inspired by the California Casual style, but with an elevated, contemporary tone.

This project was recently published exclusively with The Identite Collective, so we are now able to share the photos! Here is an excerpt from the article from The Identite Collective, featuring project ‘Cali Contemporary‘:

“When a neighbor becomes your design client, the stakes are high. So high, in fact, that only a seasoned pro like Peggy Haddad could pull it off without breaking a sweat. As an e-designer based in Denver, Peggy has worked with clients all across the country, but this remodel just so happened to be much closer to home.

The scope of work included designing a modern high-contrast kitchen, all while keeping the general layout and original cabinetry intact. Statement lighting, brass accents, woven stools, and a black kitchen island transformed the space, working to convey the client’s sleek yet organic style vision.”

We are all about statement lighting, and this kitchen is no exception. The oversized iron pendants, along with the rope, teak, and rattan counter stools are our favorite furniture and décor features.

For this project, one spouse loved the relaxed and organic ‘California Casual’ style, while the other preferred clean lines and contemporary pieces. Mixing their two style preferences was a fun challenge.

California Casual Style on a Budget

The ‘California Casual’ style incorporates lots of texture, organic materials, warm woods, and vintage pieces. To help your budget, look for vintage inspired pieces, as vintage finds can be pricey. This rug, as an example, looks vintage, but has a much lower price point.

The living room layout was a pain point because of the sunroom doors in the back corner. The previous layout felt small and cramped, and my clients wanted to maximize seating as their primary entertaining space. By changing the layout, and pushing everything back, the room was able to handle two sofas nicely. 

We were thrilled to incorporate my clients’ authentic Hans Wegner Chairs. They also served as a great jumping-off point for the California Casual + Contemporary design.

Pet-Friendly Design for Dog Lovers

Also, our clients are huge dog lovers, so they wanted furniture and décor that could handle their lifestyle. The white sofa and counter stools have high-performance Crypton upholstery. We also wanted pet-friendly rugs for the living and dining room. Although the rugs have an authentic vintage feel, they are at a great price point and very durable!

For the kitchen remodel, everything was replaced except for the cabinets, which were painted. The island features a dramatic black color tone with quartzite countertops, and the slab we selected is simply stunning.
