European + Modern Tudor // Project Meadowbrook Off-White Kitchen

Welcome back to the blog! We’re excited to share one of our favorite kitchen transformations so far. This charming, off-white kitchen from Project Meadowbrook perfectly blends the bright and airy aspects of California Casual with European elegance.

The flush inset cabinets and some traditional details are a nod to European design, while the bright and open floorplan, plus high-contrast off-white and deep blue cabinets give this kitchen a Cali Casual / Modern Tudor flair. Let’s dive into the details and see how we turned this space into a beautiful, functional off-white kitchen, the heart of the home, for a family of six.

Before + During Construction

The original kitchen was closed off, dark, and outdated, offering neither the space nor the functionality required for a large family.The layout was restrictive, and the overall design didn’t reflect the family’s style or needs. Here’s a glimpse of where we started and some in-process shots:

The Transformation Vision – all about symmetry and contrast

The objective was to create an open kitchen that felt both updated and timeless. We removed a wall to open the kitchen up to the formal dining room, creating a seamless flow. The impressive 12-foot island sits perfectly centered on the range wall and is complemented by symmetrically designed flush inset cabinetry. The use of two contrasting paint colors Farrow and Ball’s Shaded White for the perimeter cabinets and Farrow and Ball’s Railings for the island – set the tone for this elegant yet approachable off-white kitchen that is both warm and timeless. The wall color and plaster range hood are Farrow and Ball Wimborne White.

• Brass Sconces: Strategically placed for both task and ambient lighting, these sconces add warmth and elegance.

• Handmade Zellige Tile: From Cle Tile, these tiles bring texture and a touch of Old World charm to the backsplash.
• Brass Hardware: Adds a hint of luxury and ties the design together.
• Huge Island: The centerpiece of the kitchen, this island comfortably seats the entire family and is perfect for gatherings and meals.
• Porcelain Countertops: Believe it or not, the countertops we sourced for this project are porcelain! Porcelain countertops are incredibly durable, making them resistant to scratches, chips, and cracks. They are heat and stain resistant, as well as low maintenance. They’re designed to replicate the organic veining of real marble or natural stone, and this piece from Bedrosians achieves that perfectly! The one con of porcelain countertops is they are hard to fabricate and install, so make sure you select a fabricator that has experience with porcelain.

Sourced from Cle Tile, Zellige tile brings an Old World charm with its organic texture and variations in tone and shape. No two tiles are exactly alike, which gives the backsplash an artisanal, lived-in feel while adding depth and character to the space. But is Zellige the right fit for your kitchen? Pros: Each tile’s variation in texture and tone creates a truly unique, custom look | The glossy finish beautifully reflects light, making kitchens feel bright and airy | Its handcrafted imperfections add charm and character, perfect for a timeless, collected-over-time aesthetic | Works well in a variety of design styles—from California Casual to European-inspired kitchens

Cons: Because each tile is slightly different, installation can be more labor-intensive, requiring an experienced installer | The uneven edges and surface may not be for those who prefer a more uniform, polished look | Grout lines can vary slightly, and extra sealing may be needed to prevent stains in high-use areas.
