This European Inspired sunroom was designed to become the kind of space every busy family needs: beautiful enough to feel special, but comfortable enough to live in every single day.
Before the renovation, the Project Eclectic Traditional sunroom sat just off the kitchen behind a sliding glass door, which made it feel more like an add-on than part of the home. Now, it flows directly from the kitchen with openings on both sides, and the former window above the sink is completely open to the sunroom beyond. The result is a light-filled extension of the kitchen that feels connected, intentional, and incredibly inviting.
With a breakfast table, cozy sitting area, fireplace, sofa, and swivel glider chair, this room works hard in the best possible way. It’s where morning coffee happens, where games are played, where cozy evenings unfold by the fire, and where homeschooling fits naturally into daily life for this sweet family of seven.

If you’re gathering European-inspired sunroom ideas, this space offers plenty to pull from. We painted the walls and trim Simply White by Benjamin Moore to keep the room feeling fresh, bright, and connected to the kitchen, but kept the original wood-paneled ceiling and brick fireplace for warmth and richness. That balance of crisp white walls with natural wood and brick gave the room a lighter foundation without stripping away its character.
Floral William Morris curtains set the tone in a soft blue, organic pattern, while a white turned pedestal table keeps the dining zone airy and classic. The woven rattan chairs bring in texture and warmth, and their green cushions echo the leafy views outside.
Underfoot, a rusty blush Rifle Paper Co. patterned rug defines the adjacent sitting area, layered with an olive green sofa and a plaid swivel chair that feels cozy, durable, and just the right amount of tailored. Rattan shaded iron chandeliers add structure from above, while a floor lamp brings in ambiance and flexibility for everything from morning coffee to evening board games. All together, these European-inspired sunroom ideas create a space that feels collected, lived-in, and ready for real life—proof that you don’t need a formal room to make a beautiful one.
One of the most important goals for this European-inspired sunroom was preserving the breathtaking panoramic views of the family’s land. We wanted the room to feel layered and finished, but never heavy or blocked off from the outdoors. To keep the space soft while still letting in plenty of light, we chose sheer window treatments in a William Morris print. The pattern adds that old-world, collected charm without competing with the view.
The room also tells the family’s story in a deeply personal way. We incorporated my client’s family trunk, which was used during their carriage driving days, along with an original heirloom painting. Those are the kinds of pieces that make a space feel rooted. You can buy beautiful furniture, of course, but you can’t buy family history — and that is exactly what gives a room soul.
The design leans traditional and European-inspired, but it still feels relaxed and livable. Natural textures, soft textiles, classic patterns, and meaningful heirloom pieces all work together to create a room that feels collected over time. Nothing about it feels too precious, which is essential in a home with five kids. Beauty is wonderful, but beauty that can handle real life? Even better.
This sunroom is proof that multifunctional spaces don’t have to feel purely practical. With the right layout and layers, a room can serve as a breakfast nook, sitting room, homeschool spot, game table, and quiet morning retreat — while still feeling warm, elevated, and full of character.
House Beautiful recently wrote about the “soft kitchen” trend for 2026—and this sunroom feels like a natural extension of that idea.
The kitchen is no longer just a place to cook. It’s where families gather, work, linger, snack, spill things, tell stories, and somehow leave every cabinet door open. The best kitchens now feel less clinical and more connected to real life.
For this family, opening the former sunroom to the kitchen completely changed how the home lives. What once felt separate now feels like a warm, European-inspired extension of the kitchen—with a breakfast table, cozy sitting area, fireplace, William Morris sheers, an olive green sofa, and layers of texture that soften the hard-working heart of the home.
We painted the walls Simply White by Benjamin Moore to keep everything fresh and bright, but kept the wood-paneled ceiling and brick fireplace for warmth and richness. It’s light, layered, practical, and personal—the kind of space that makes the kitchen feel less like a workspace and more like a place everyone wants to stay awhile.
And that, to me, is the whole point of a “soft kitchen.”
