Modern Farmhouse + Transitional Glam + Coastal Kitchen Styling // Peggy’s Picks of the Week

Kitchen styling is a must when you want a look that’s equally inviting and functional. However, it can feel intimating to incorporate décor plus necessary kitchen items, while also making sure your counters don’t look cluttered.

To help with this task, we’ve rounded up our favorite kitchen styling picks, plus tips for a well-curated and functional kitchen!

Project Party of Seven Modern Farmhouse was our inspiration this week’s Peggy’s Picks of the Week, as its the perfect example of how to execute kitchen styling. We also pulled favorites from a recent kitchen styling project that incorporated modern farmhouse, transitional and coastal styles.

One of our top tips is, more often than not, investing in items that serve a purpose in your home and are high-quality and pretty to look at. These items then double as a styling item and something that you need. It’s a win-win! Kitchens are the perfect example of how to master this art. For example, instead of purchasing cheap spatulas and cutting boards, we recommend that you spend a little more on these functional items and display them on your counters. No you no longer need the additional décor to make up for the lack of color, texture, and character.

In ‘Project Party of Seven’, you’ll notice that the kitchen isn’t bare by any means, but yet also isn’t filled to the brim. This is the power of proper kitchen styling, nearly everything in this kitchen serves a purpose in some way! Even the art serves a purpose other than adding personality… how you ask? Art is perfect for covering outlets or other unsightly features that you may want hidden.

If you haven’t seen the before and after of this kitchen yet with the design boards and shoppable links, you can find the original ‘Party of Seven’ Kitchen Reveal on the blog. You can also find additional kitchen inspiration on the blog when you browse our library by room.

Trays & Charcuterie Boards

Just like art, charcuterie boards, trays, and cutting boards are all fantastic ways to cover outlets and add warmth to your hard finishes! This charcuterie board comes in both natural wood and black, as well three different sizes.

We love trays for collecting disparate items (we recommend salt and pepper grinders, oils, and a vase of florals/greenery). This reduces visual clutter without having to hide away every day items. We used this carved wood tray is in Project Reserve Ridge, as featured below!

Ceramics

Incorporating jars, vases, and cannisters are another multi-purpose décor item for a kitchen. Consider using them for storing food or adding a plant for greenery. We recommend a large vase to anchor an island countertop.

Utensils

We are absolutely obsessed with these salt and pepper mills! They’re the perfect way to add an elegance to a basic kitchen item.

Art

When looking for kitchen art work, you can’t go wrong with a canvas still life!

Rugs

Never underestimate the ability of a rug to add color and softness to a kitchen! A runner along the island or range wall is always a kitchen must-have in our book.
